The Tin Box: The Legend, the Mystery, the History

The Tin Box was started in 1994 (AD) by Kari and Sean Meggs - two bold and crazy Albertans with a singular purpose: to open up something artsy, trendy, and urban to throw into the retail mix of Canmore; something one would find on Queen Street in Toronto or Kitsilano in Vancouver. The original Canmore store was small, but over the next 11 years it expanded three times to make space for the overtly unique merchandise Sean and Kari found.

Wanting to expand the family business, the crazy couple went to Kari's brother, David, and his beautiful blonde bride-to-be Treasure, in Edmonton.  With Dave's fiscal and technical know-how and Treasure's retail acumen, it was a dynamic team. History was made as they moved in on White Avenue in 2005. Things went well enough to consider crazy thoughts for another store, and voila! - the Tin Box on High Street was born in the hot summer of 2008, offering new lines of jewelry, more works of art, and all the cool gifts and beautiful décor pieces the Tin Box is known for.

This independent, family-owned business may have expanded, but it is still small enough to care personally for all its customers.
